FUTUREPROOF '26 - TECH WIZ

As part of the motion design course at Ringling, we have access to the annual FutureProof conference held on campus. Each year, students create a proof of concept for the intro video to play at this conference. The best one is selected by the department for the students to bring to a finalized state and be aired onstage.
This project was created in collaboration with fellow MD student, Ian Wicenski.
Style Frames
The Tech Whiz concept uses a blend of live-action footage in digitally created environments, the opener takes us from a blank, flat void into a more vibrant and energetic world with more dimension, indicating the diversity of work designers can produce. The protagonist, representing the designer watching, expresses their passion for their craft with movement, dancing their way through design. These two major ideas come together to emphasize the energy and variety that a designer can make use of in a project that really excites them. If this concept were to be fully realized, it would utilize a wider variety of figures to represent the diversity of designers, and unifying power of the industry.

The style frames of course needed to fit within the context of the animation.
Storyboards fill in the blanks between each one, with a rough pass of the audio track.
To maintain consistency between two collaborators going forward, a style guide was also necessary. It also would be a guide to creating branded materials if this approach were chosen to move forward.

Begin to demonstrate process by showing early work, often style frames. These often require less explanation, though with a defined aesthetic by this point in the process, the rationale behind it will likely need to be clarified.

(FUTURE)PROOF OF CONCEPT
After completing style frames in the design course, the animation course then required us to, as you might guess, ANIMATE an abbreviated version of the sequence.
